Part one of the largely untold story of Eugene "Jacques" Bullard, an African American who left America as a young boy to find freedom from rascism in Europe and ended up becoming the first American -born black pilot to fly fighter planes, fighting for France's elite Lafayette Escadrille in WWI. His amazing life began with his being raised in a gypsy camp, stowing away on a German freighter bound for Scotland, becoming a prize fighter, joining the French Foreign Legion, owning a Jazz Bar in Paris, marrying a wealthy socialite in Paris, getting wounded at Verdun, and later fighting in WWII at age 45, escaping the Nazi threat and returning to New York, and gradually fading into obscuriy until being discovered again by NBC's Today Show.
